North Caucasus: alarming tendencies

According to the HRC Memorial monitoring of human rights violations a number of abductions in Chechen Republic increased in January-April 2009. And a number of  the dead in Ingushetia also increased as compared to 2008.

In January-April 2009, there were 34 people abducted in Chechnya. While in 2008 there were 42 people abducted totally (7 of them - in January-April 2008). At the same time the number of killed civilians decreased.

In Ingushetia the situation with the abducted hasn't changed much compared to the situation in 2008. But the number of killed people increased sharply. 59 men were killed in Ingushetia in January-April 2009.
