Maskhud Abdullaev is in Chechnya
As it's been reported on June 29, 2009 Maskhud Abdullaev, a student of
university "Al-Azkhar" spoke on the Chechen governmental TV-channel
"Grozniy". In the live broadcast "Base Points", he said
that having arrived at Moscow he spent a night at the airport of Domodedovo.
The next day he left for Chechnya. He wanted to see his relatives and friends
and to learn how Chechnya lived where he hadn't been for almost 10 years.
Maskhud stated that he experienced no pressure: "I visit the places I
want, see the people I want. And no violence has been put on my way",
quotes Interfax news agency.
Maskhud stated one more time that he wasn't connected with the activity of
his father, Supian Abdullaev: "Even if I'm told to "go to the
woods" (join rebels) I will not do that. If I did want to I would
have left already." Maskhud also said that he was going to spend summer in
Chechnya and then go back to Egypt for graduating.
We are glad that Maskhud Abdullaev is alive. But many questions still
receive no answers. How did Maskhud depart to Grozniy on the domestic flight
without entering arrival hall of the international flight? How
"voluntarily" did he do that? Does he actually enjoys freedom or not?
Special concern is caused by the fact that up to this moment Abdullaev hadn't
called his mother after the arrival in Moscow. As Satsita Abdullaeva living in
Baku (Azerbaijan) told HRC Memorial they used to call each other
regularly when Maskhud was in Egypt. The last time Maskhud communicated with
his mother was before his departure from Cairo. He promised to call again after
the arrival but never did. And since that time there is no news from him.
Maskhud Abdullaev is one of the students of university "Al-Azhar"
deported from Egypt, he is a son of Doku Umarov's assistant Supian Abdullaev.
Human rights activists are concerned that Maskhud can be used to apply pressure
on his rebel father.
