Mr. Hammarberg and Mr. Lukin in Memorial office

Commissioner for Human Rights Thomas Hammarberg and Russian Ombudsman Vladimir Lukin continue their visit to the North Caucasus.

Yesterday, on September 7, 2009, Mr. Hammarberg and Mr. Lukin visited Memorial office in Grozny (Chechnya). Although Memorial has suspended its work in Chechnya, on this day members of Memorial gathered to meet Mr. Hammarberg and Mr. Lukin.

Mr. Hammarberg and Mr. Lukin expressed condolences on the death of Natalia Estemirova on July15, 2009. They also expressed their respect for Memorial's work.

The meeting continued for 40 minutes. It was dedicated to three general themes. The guests and Memorial members discussed the situation with human rights in the Caucasus. They also talked about the situation of non-governmental organizations in the region and on the investigation in the case of killing of Natalia Estemirova.
