Transcript of the Latest Hearing in the Case of Oleg Orlov Can Be Found on Memorial's Website

The full Russian transcript of the sixth hearing (which took place on December 16, 2010) in the trial against Oleg Orlov, HRC Memorial's head of the council, can be found on our website: http://www.memo.ru/2011/01/11/1101111.html.

During these hearings the witnesses of the defense Ekaterina Sokiryanskaya, HRC Memorial member, and Tatyana Lokshina, deputy director of Human Rights Watch in Moscow, were questioned. They told about personal meetings between Kadyrov and Estemirova, about his hostility towards human rights activists, about pressure on independent NGOs in the Chechen Republic, about the formation of a regime of absolute, personal power there, about the deaths and disappearances of critics of the regime and furthermore about violations of human rights in the republic.

The next court hearings in Orlov's case will be on Thursday, January 13, 2011.
