Vasilieva, Alla Fedorovna
Painter
Born 1902, Ulan-Ude; died 1991, Moscow. Graduated from the Institute of Art and Technology [Vkhutein] (1929) and musical school; attended Dmitry Kardovsky's art studio. Was induldged in portrait painting and stage design. Mother of Gai Protopopov (see). As a member of a family of traitor to the Motherland she was given by the Special panel [OSO] five years plus disenfranchisement for three more. Served in the Akmolinsk camp ALZhIR (till 1942), then in Karlag (Dolinka and Spassk), where she designed stage sets for Boris Asafiev's ballet The Fountain of Bakhchisarai (the music score was made from memory by the prisoner Sher), painted "carpets" on pressed newspapers, as well as portraits of fellow prisoners. After 1953 she returned to Moscow; in 1956 was reinstated.
