Vingorsky, Andrei Kuzmich
Graphic artist
Born 1902, village of Severinovka, Kamenets-Podolsk (West Ukraine); died 1991, Moscow. Attended Kiev Art Institute; in 1930 graduated from the Moscow Institute of Art and Technology [Vkhutein], faculty of graphic art; contributed to publishing houses. In 1942 was mobilized. Was arrested in 1943 on a charge of criticizing the Soviet Government; sentenced to the supreme measure of punishment which three weeks later was commuted to ten years in camp and disenfranchisement for five more. Five years were spent in camps of Smolensk, where he headed an art workshop producing the city's festive decoration, posters and three-metre high portraits of the Soviet leaders. In the early 1950s he was employed on the Kuibyshev hydropower station construction project. Was amnestied in 1956 and reinstated in 1962. Lived in Moscow.
