How did the Soviet state security apparatus develop after the 1917 Revolution? How was the Lubyanka district transformed by the growth of Stalin's system of repression, culminating in the Great Terror of 1937-38? Memorial's signature walking tour seeks to answer these questions by acquainting visitors with the history of roughly a dozen buildings used or targeted by Soviet state security organs from 1918-1953 (and beyond). As part of the project «Moscow: Sites of Memory» the tour will feature some of the most prominent sites where crimes against Soviet citizens were perpetrated during the Stalinist era.

The excursion will be led by Memorial volunteer, Harrison King, and will last approximately 90 minutes.
