Russia's Supreme Court orders closure of International Memorial

Today, 28 December, 2021, Russia's Supreme Court held its third and final hearing into the Prosecutor General's lawsuit against International Memorial.

Judge Alla Nazarova upheld the Prosecutor' Office complaint, ordering the closure of International Memorial and all of its branches.

International Memorial Board Chairman Jan Raczynski, the organisation's Executive Director Yelena Zhemkova, attorneys Henry Reznik, Mikail Biryukov, and Maria Eismont as well as Memorial's legal team represented the organisation in the hearing.

Spokespersons for the Prosecutor General's Office, the Justice Ministry, and Roskomnadzor, Russia's media watchdog, also attended the hearing.
